About us
Studio Onderstroom is a collective of three independent artists: Gemma Luz Bosch, Annabel Schouten and Jurriaan de Vos. We aim to use our diverse disciplines—installation art, sound design, physical theater, and community art—to playfully connect people with each other and their environment.
We share a deep fascination for physically immersive work, and with our installations, we continually find new ways to fully immerse an audience. Our projects are characterized by their interactive nature, where the experience of the viewer is central. We primarily work in public outdoor spaces where we encounter an unexpected “audience”. Outdoors, on the street or in parks, we don’t appeal to an exclusive target group, but rather to everyone.
Our installations spark interest, and the casual passerby is automatically drawn to the intervention. The works and the hosts are inviting and accessible, resulting in curious people wanting to step in or on the works. In the experiences we create, we always invite visitors to soften, listen, feel, and experience their bodies and to open their ears towards the sounds from the surrounding. The sensory experience of space and the vulnerability of our bodies in the landscape we find ourselves in, is something that connects us all. We believe this phisicallity and vulnerability is a powerful tool to stay human in the world as we know it today.
