Aircilla

Aircilla is a swarm of 271 individual ceramic sound objects, suspended from an intricate ceiling of nylon strings and 3D-printed pulleys. The sound objects are set into motion by a big mechanism, in which the circular motion of a 2 meter wide metal wheel transforms the level field of sound objects into a continuous concentric wave.
The handmade and therefore unique sound objects swing and collide with each other, creating sound and timbres in their own way. Our goal with Aircilla is to fascinate, and immerse the audience in a moving landscape of individual elements. Aircilla is a mechanical and auditory analogy for how any landscape is built from countless unique figures, that all play a role in the whole.
We invite the audience to experience Aircilla in their own way. Whether it is laying on the ground, walking under it, looking from a distance or closing their eyes. Some are fascinated by the mechanism, others by the swaying motion of the sound objects.
Aircilla can play on its own, but it also has been part of several concerts during Gaudeamus music week.
Aircilla was created in collaboration with Museum Speelklok.
