Meerklank on Water

The collective of Annabel Schouten, Jurriaan de Vos and Gemma Luz Bosch uses music, physical theatre, installation art and community art to offer people a physical experience. Meerklank is a large water wheel made of recycled wood, which is set in motion by black, anthropomorphic figures, or even the audience itself. It swings and sways seemingly uncontrollably over the water and appears to know no rest. The movement of the wheel is converted into sound by rushing water and rhythmically flapping blades. At the same time, this movement causes a continuous downpour of rain in the wheel.
Because the figures can hardly see where they are going, they have to keep moving constantly to keep the wheel under control – forward, backward, adjust and continue again.
